Flying over a 200-kilometre expanse of the Great Barrier Reef, this part of the journey will surprise and delight you as you take in the beauty, scale and visual diversity of the reef. Transfers to and from Lizard Island will be booked for you by one of our Lizard Island specialists.

Directions to Lizard Island

Getting to Cairns, Queensland - Cairns Airport is a major regional airport with daily domestic and international flight schedules. Please visit www.cairnsairport.com for the most up to date schedule of flights, or contact your preferred travel agent.

What you need to know

Your scenic flight from Cairns to Lizard Island is approximately one hour
You will be personally met at the airport and driven to meet your connecting charter flight to the island
Please advise your arrival and departure details in and out of Cairns at the time of confirming your Lizard Island accommodation booking
If travelling on an international flight, please allow two and a half hours from the time of your arrival to the departure time of your flight to Lizard Island
If arriving on a domestic flight, please allow a full 90 minutes from the time of your arrival to the departure time of your flight to Lizard Island
When returning from Lizard Island to Cairns, please allow 90 minutes for domestic connections and two and a half hours for international connections, from your time of arrival into Cairns to the time of your departing connection
Your scenic air transfers to and from Lizard Island are not included in your Lizard Island package rate - unless specified

Flights depart from the Hinterland Aviation Terminal, Hangar 7, Tom McDonald Drive in Cairns at 11.00am and 2.00pm
Flights depart Lizard Island to return to Cairns at 12.25pm and 3.25pm

Additional Information

As summer approaches our aviation partner have made a seasonal adjustment to our luggage allowances. From 1st December 2024 to 31st March 2025, our aviation partner have adjusted the luggage allowance to 20kg per person. This limit allows our airline partner, Hinterland Aviation to carry additional fuel that is required during the summer months in Far North Queensland.
If your luggage exceeds 20kg, Hinterland Aviation offers safe and secure storage options for any additional items, but this must be checked prior to arrival to confirm space is available
Soft bags are recommended, as large hard-shelled bags will not fit through the aircraft baggage door. The recommended baggage size is no larger than 67cm height x 45cm width x 29cm depth

Your connecting flight will be confirmed once your accommodation is booked and confirmed.

In order to avoid potential costly and unnecessary airfare re-bookings, please do not book your domestic flights to Cairns until your transfer flights to Lizard Island have been confirmed by the resort reservations team, who will be in touch with you directly.

The perfect place to get married!!! We were looking for a very private wedding, just the two of us, and after contacting the hotel, they helped arrange everything. They arranged a celebrant (Vivian) to fly in to perform the ceremony, and with the help of Nicole, Heather and David all our wedding needs were taken care of. David and Heather were our witnesses, and David (Resort Photographer) took some amazing pictures... the day ended with a very romantic 7 course dinner on the beach, served to perfection by Claudio - Steve and Alice

A spectacular island and resort! It is truly a wonderful experience from the beach to the water, the sunsets, the sea life, the birds and the spa pampering. The staff could not be more accommodating, professional, and helpful all in a most impressive and genuine manner. The accommodation is tops; well kept and maintained. If you are looking for the most friendly, comfortable, and exquisite place to relax, this is it! Sand, sun, snorkel, dive, boat, paddle board, hike, relax. It’s all here! The spa was awesome with Beck, best pedicure ever. Ava was awesome on the beach, Magic was totally chill and helpful. The whole crew on the dive boat was awesome. The cabins on the beach are amazing. But the food, and diversity of menus was off the chart. Wine pairings to match. - Tom
