In celebration of Penfolds 175 years of innovative winemaking, Lizard Island is thrilled to  host a three day gourmet experience with Penfolds.

Enjoy the best of Lizard Island over 3 days, 2 nights whilst enjoying gourmet meals matched with Penfolds new release wines including 2015 Grange, recently awarded 100 points by Andrew Caillard MW and

Penfolds winemaker Andrew Hales joins Lizard Island Executive Chef Ryan Squires as they take us on a journey of the palate over the 3 days enjoying everything from degustation beach dining experiences, a masterclass with Winemaker Andrew Hales and featuring the limited edition, Champagne Thiénot x Penfolds Chardonnay Pinot Noir Cuvée plus tastings of the Penfolds Collection 2019 all matched against the backdrop of the beautiful Lizard Island, Great Barrier Reef.

Three day Lizard Island immersion accompanied by Penfolds Masterclass, experiences and dinners. Highlights include:

Andrew Hales Penfolds Winemaker

Andrew joined the Penfolds Winemaking team in 2017 with over 28 years of winemaking experience. After completing a Degree in Agricultural Science at the University of Adelaide in 1986, Andrew went on to study a Graduate Diploma in Oenology, finishing his formal studies in 1995. 

From the early 90’s Andrew worked in multiple vineyards across South Australia and in the Hunter Valley. From 1997 –1999 Andrew spent many months working abroad at wineries in France (Loire Valley, Bordeaux and Cahors), Italy (Sicily) and Tunisia before returning to the Barossa Valley.  

Before starting with Penfolds in 2017, Andrew held multiple Senior Winemaker roles in the Barossa, most recently he finished an 11-year tenure at Wolf Blass in Nuriootpa. At Penfolds, Andrew is responsible for crafting Bin 169, Bin 707, Bin 407, Bin 128. He is also responsible for managing Penfolds Nuriootpapremium vineyards and all Limestone Coast regions including Coonawarraand Robe. Andrew is passionate about crafting classic wines that display elegance and finesse, with a balanced structure, sublime texture, and longevity.


Penfolds Grange, 2015 – awarded 100 points by Andrew Caillard MW and

Penfolds flagship wine, the 2015 is no exception. Saturation, poise, focus and house style familiarity all showing in equal parts. A testimony to the multi-regional blending philosophy that underpins Grange DNA, offering an abundance of complexity. Crafted utilising fully ripe, intensely flavoured and structured Shiraz grapes, with an unbroken line of vintages from the experimental 1951 Grange demonstrating the synergy between Shiraz and the soils and climates of South Australia Matured for 20 months in 100 new American oak hogsheads.

Champagne Thiénot x Penfolds Chardonnay Pinot Noir Cuvée, 2012

Introducing a limited release Champagne to toast 175 years of winemaking endeavours, Penfolds have reignited their love affair with France, a special place for Penfolds, where winemaker Max Schubert was inspired to create Grange. Partnered with Thiénot, a respected player in the world of Champagne, Penfolds instigated hands on involvement throughout the tirage storage to create an extraordinary 2012 Chardonnay Pinot Noir Cuvée.
