One of the greatest joys of fishing in and around Lizard Island is the ease of access to some of the world’s greatest fishing spots. Just 15 minutes by boat and you will arrive at the inner reef and a further 35 minutes and you will be at the outer reef. Whether you’re a seasoned big game fisherman, or it’s your first time in the chair, our Marine team will create a fishing experience that meets your wildest dreams.
The waters around Lizard Island are rich in a variety of fish including Mackerel, Queenfish, Trevally and other species of fish that live in the pelagic zone of the ocean, your crew will know the perfect spots for your success. Meanwhile, our Executive Chef will be waiting to take the catch off your hands and prepare it for you dinner in the evening.
Annual Black Marlin Class
From September to December the Black Marlin return to the waters around Lizard Island and for 7 days each October, Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic sees boats and game fisherman from all over the world ascend on Anchor Bay to fulfil dreams of catching one of these majestic creatures.
All Marlin fishing is confined to specific areas and is “tag and release” to ensure the protection and scientific monitoring of these giants of the sea.
Bookings are essential for all fishing excursions and the Black Marlin Classic and we recommend these are made as early in advance of your arrival as possible to avoid disappointment. Fishing tackle of the highest quality is provided.
Outer Reef Fishing – 50 minutes by boat and what you can expect to catch
Mackerel, Tuna, Trevally, Mahi-mahi, Sailfish and even small Black Marlin at certain times of the year.
Inner Reef Fishing – 15 minutes by boat and what you can expect to catch
Mackerel, Queenfish, Trevally and other pelagic species.
