Getting there

Lizard Island Resort is located 240km north of Cairns and 27km off the coast of North Queensland. Our Resort organises 1-hour scenic flights between Cairns and Lizard Island over the Great Barrier Reef.

Getting to Cairns

To get to Lizard Island, regular flights are available to Cairns from all Australian capital cities with Qantas, JetStar and Virgin Blue. Alternatively, Queensland Rail offers two Tilt trains and three Sunlander departures from Brisbane to Cairns.

Transfer between Cairns and Lizard Island

By Scenic Flight

From Cairns enjoy a scenic 60 minute flight, over spectacular views of the Great Barrier Reef and coast to Lizard Island. This flight is operated by Hinterland Aviation located at Cairns Airport close to the Domestic and International Terminals. Transfers between Cairns Airport and the Hinterland Aviation Terminal are provided complimentary to your flight booking, through Coral Reef Coaches.

The Hinterland Aviation Terminal is 15 minutes from the city centre of Cairns by car or taxi.

Luggage Restrictions

Passengers are restricted to one suitcase and one small carry-on item of hand luggage each, to a maximum of 32kg in total e.g. 28kg check in luggage and 4kg carry-on. Soft suitcases are preferable and weight limits are subject to loading restrictions. Secure luggage storage facilities are available at the Hinterland Aviation Terminal.

Lizard Island can organise air transfers to the island for you, however to ensure the process runs smoothly a minimum of 14 days notice of your connecting flights would be ideal.

Please note: Transfer flights are not included as part of your accommodation charges for Lizard Island unless specified as part of a package.
